Tru Faces strives to be a community-based page that showcases a variety of experiences and voices. That includes providing a space where everyone is allowed to share their voice, including struggles, successes, awareness pieces and lived experiences. For interested individuals, this can be achieved through three methods that we offer: features, content pieces, and blogs. You can submit all methods through our Google form or email them to tru.faces.connect@gmail.com if you require an accommodation.
When Tru Faces was created, it had a foundation of sharing the stories of individuals with disabilities, and that concept remains the same. To date, we have featured over 300 people on our social media pages. Our features are specific to individuals with disabilities and include a caption with their story and photo(s). They can be submitted for yourself, a loved one, a career you think others should know about, a business or organization, or be featured anonymously. Features are shared on our Instagram and Facebook.
The submission includes a written caption and 1-3 photos. The caption must be less than 2000 characters and can include information like your name, location, disability, career/education, hobbies, challenges and accomplishments.
A task previously reserved for our ambassadors, we are now opening our content sharing to ALL community members! Similar to a feature, content pieces will be shared on our Instagram and Facebook. The difference, however, is that content pieces do not have to be about an individual's life story. Content pieces should be about a specific experience that you've had regarding your disability (negative or positive) to create awareness on an issue OR contain some form of advice or tips for the disability community. Typically, these pieces come from individuals with disabilities and are directly from lived experiences. Pieces also usually contain an overall topic or theme like employment, education, fashion/media, intersectionality, holidays, etc.
The submission should include a written portion must be less than 2000 characters and one photo.
Blogs are another great way to get your advocacy messaging out in a longer format. Blogs are posted on our webiste with social media promotion on Facebook and Instagram. Blogs can be similar to features or content pieces and don't have much restriction on what you can write about. They can be about your experiences, offer advice, or be informational. Blogs should have an overall theme and a key takeaway for readers.
The submission includes a written portion of 250-500 words and one photo.
